Getting Ready for Back to School

BACK TO SCHOOL is just around the corner and let’s face it, before you know it our lazy days of summer will be replaced with the hectic school schedule.

Are you ready?  Are your kids ready?

Here are a few ideas on how to prepare for the unavoidable return to school schedules and routines both physically and mentally.

The Backpack:  Hopefully you have already completed all that back to school shopping before the mad rush.  If not…I suggust going early in the morning or late at night to secure what is needed.  Then label items before loading them into the back pack and hang it up so it is ready for day 1.

The Wardrobe:  As I kid I always remember going shopping for our 1…that’s right 1 back to school outfit.  Usually it was a classic fall outfit that wasn’t quite suitable for the 25 degree + weather that we often enjoy in early September.  But I’m not saying you need to buy anything…just ensure they have the appropriate wardrobe for back to school.  You know, shoes that fit, socks and underwear without holes, clothes that adhere to the school dress code.

The Lunch:  This is undoubtedly my least favorite part of school; packing lunches.  Hence I assign my kids the task.  That still means I need to ensure the pantry and fridge are fully stocked with healthy lunch options that my kids will actually eat.  Why not take the kids shopping to pick out things they might actually eat and that you approve of.  Make sure to include a water bottle with the lunch.

The Student:  The most important element is of course the student.  It’s important to make sure your student is getting sufficient sleep, water and nutrition but also check in on them mentally and how they are feeling about going back to school.  For some school is a fun place to play, socialize and learn but for others learning is a challenge, or school is a bore or the social scene is scary.  Talk about it.  Get them the help they need to achieve success academically and socially.

Once you have taken care of the above get out there and enjoy the rest of your summer because it is slipping away fast!
