Let the festivities begin

This past weekend we kicked off the season by attending some local festivities. On Saturday we attended the Salvation Army’s fourth annual Coats for Kids event hosted at the EcoDairy with The Abby News. There were gingerbread cookies to decorate and eat. The Reach Gallery and the Fraser Valley Fish Hatchery were also on hand with some fun crafts.

On Sunday, we made our way to the Downtown Abbotsford’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting where many local businesses and community organizations set up shop to entertain the kids with various glittery and gluey crafts and activities while others were set up to feed and warm the crowds with snacks and refreshments. On the main stage there was a variety of music from Christmas carolling choirs to foot stomping country rockers. And of course Mr and Mrs Claus were on hand to take requests from Christmas wish lists.

That was this weekend but I also heard a rumour Santa will be showing up next weekend at High Street for their 1st annual Christmas Tree Lighting, with music and markets and much more.

So if you’re not yet feeling the Christmas spirit, read the paper or check out your local tourism site and it will tell you where you can find some!
