Luscious lettuces
GOT A veggie garden? If so, you might be like us and finally starting to see the fruits of your labour!
Lettuces are one of the first things to come into their own – perfect as the staple for your summer salads. We were mistaken for thinking lettuces were simply the glue to hold all of those other wonderful and nutritious salad ingredients together but in fact, they are their own little nutrition powerhouses. There are few things better than a freshly cut lettuce grown from scratch.
Why we love them: Lettuces are a very good source of dietary fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, folate and iron. They are also a good source of magnesium, vitamin B6, calcium and riboflavin.
When to buy them: Of course, lettuces are readily available year-round in grocery stores but why go for pre-packaged when there are fresh lettuces aplenty now at your local farmers market.
How to eat them: The salad staple – keep things simple with a drizzle of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and a pinch of sea salt!
