One of our favourite things about this time of year is the appearance of mandarin oranges. This stocking stuffer and holiday staple makes a delicious treat but is also an excellent addition to your diet at this time of year.
Why we love them: like all fruits in the citrus family, mandarin oranges are brimming with vitamin C making them the perfect remedy during cold and flu season. They are also an excellent source of a number of immune-boosting antioxidants including vitamin A, carotins, luteins and naringin.
What to look for: always choose mandarin oranges with deep orange skin and a firm smooth surface. Avoid fruit with dark spots or those that feel too soft.
How to eat them: mandarin oranges are a perfect sweet snack when a sugar craving hits but their segments also make great additions to a green salad. The zest can also add a unique flavour to baking.
