Running for water

This past warm but rainy Sunday the whole gang of us ran in the annual Run for Water, or as the kids call it ‘Run in Water’ due to the weather these past couple years.

This year I broke from my half-marathon tradition and ran the 5km with the whole family from the 45-year-old right down to the 5 year old. It was a fun family day as we all put on our ‘Run for Water’ shirts, laced up our runners and headed for the event.

We started out as a family but gradually split off as we found our pace or committed to a running partner. Annabelle ran on ahead, Bill and Violet paired up, Liam and Joe were the ‘brother team’ and that left Lucy and myself bringing up the rear.

Lucy, she specifically wore her cheetah leggings to the race because cheetahs are fast…nice theory but I’m not so sure it was effective. We ran, we walked, we laughed and yes, someone even cried but we all finished with smiles on our  faces and a ‘finisher’ medal around our necks. We may not be cheetahs but hey, we participated and it felt good knowing that Ethiopians will get clean drinking water because our efforts.
